Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 slices Bread (sourdough or whole grain) Excellent choices for added texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Essential for crispy edges; can substitute with olive oil.
  • 4 ounces Sharp Cheddar Cheese Use alongside other cheese varieties like Monterey Jack.
  • 4 ounces Monterey Jack Cheese Ensure a flavorful and melty center.

Method

Preparation
  1. Let 2 tablespoons unsalted butter sit at room temperature until softened.
  2. Grate 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese and 4 ounces Monterey Jack cheese on the large holes of a box grater (about 1 cup each). Toss together in a medium bowl.
Assembly
  1. Assemble sandwiches by spreading butter onto one side of each of the 4 slices of bread.
  2. Flip 2 of the slices over and divide the cheese evenly over them. Close with the remaining 2 bread slices, butter-side up. Press slightly to close.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F.
  2. Place the sandwiches in the air fryer (do one at a time if they don’t fit in a single layer with some space around them) and air fry for 3 minutes.
  3. Flip the sandwiches and air fry until the top is golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes more. If the bottom isn’t golden brown, flip again and air fry for 1 to 2 minutes more.

Notes

Serve hot from the air fryer, paired with your favorite tomato soup or a crisp salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
