For the salad
  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed Fresh and crisp variety for best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds For garnish.
For the marinade
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce Use gluten-free soy sauce if needed.
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar For acidity and sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp honey For natural sweetness; substitute with maple syrup for vegan option.
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil Adds a rich, nutty aroma.
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated Introduces a fresh zest.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder For depth of flavor.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Provide stronger garlic flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes Adjust based on heat preference.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Fill a large bowl with ice and cold water to prepare an ice bath.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Add the green beans to boiling water and cook for 3-4 minutes until bright green but still crisp.
  4. Drain the green beans and immediately submerge them in the ice bath to stop the cooking process.
  5. Once cool, drain the beans and place them in a large bowl.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, honey, sesame oil, grated fresh ginger, garlic powder, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  7. Pour the marinade over the green beans and mix well to coat.
Serving
  1. You can serve the salad immediately or let it marinate for at least 30 minutes for enhanced flavor.

Notes

For best flavor, prepare a few hours ahead and allow it to marinate. Adjust crushed red pepper flakes according to your taste. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
