Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pieces ripe avocados Choose avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the best mashing.
  • 4 slices bread Use your choice of bread such as sourdough, whole grain, or gluten-free.
  • to taste none salt Essential for flavor enhancement; sea salt works beautifully.
  • to taste none pepper Black pepper adds warmth to your avocado blend.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Optional, but brightens the flavor; lime can be used as a substitute.
  • to taste none red pepper flakes Optional for those who enjoy a hint of spice.
  • as desired none toppings Creativity encouraged; consider cherry tomatoes, radishes, feta cheese, or a poached egg.

Method

Preparation
  1. Toast the slices of bread until golden brown.
  2. While the bread is toasting, cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  3. Mash the avocado with a fork and season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice if desired.
  4. Spread the mashed avocado onto the toasted bread.
  5. Add your choice of toppings, such as sliced cherry tomatoes, radishes, feta, or a poached egg.
  6. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if you like some heat.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Store toppings separately if making extra. Keep mashed avocado in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed against its surface to minimize browning. Freezing full toast is not recommended due to texture changes, but mashed avocado can be frozen separately.
