For the Chicken
  • 4 pieces Chicken thighs or breasts You may substitute drumsticks for a more economical option.
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with yogurt or milk mixed with vinegar.
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Gluten-free flour can be used for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika Smoked paprika can enhance flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder Fresh minced garlic can be used; reduce amount to avoid overwhelming flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder Shallots can be a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Consider using sea salt.
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper White pepper is a gentler alternative.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, soak the chicken in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture.
  5. Place the coated chicken on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Lightly spray the chicken with cooking spray.
Cooking
  1. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and crispy.
  2. Serve hot.

Notes

For a lighter option, you can choose skinless chicken. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
