  • 4 large eggs For the custard’s rich texture and protein load.
  • 1 cup whole milk Any milk you enjoy will work; oat, almond, or soy can offer delightful variations.
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream Feel free to substitute with coconut cream for a dairy-free variant.
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar Coconut sugar can add a unique flavor twist.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Elevates the entire flavor profile.
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon Optional; adds depth.
  • 0.25 tsp salt Enhances sweetness and balances flavors.
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted Brings everything together.
  • to taste powdered sugar For garnish (optional).

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish using butter or cooking spray.
  2. Tear the croissants into large chunks and evenly arrange them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the mixed berries over the croissant pieces.
Custard Mixture
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and salt until smooth.
  2. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissant chunks and berries, ensuring they're thoroughly soaked.
  3. Gently press down the croissants with a spoon to help them absorb the custard.
Baking
  1. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the mixture.
  2. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and the custard is set.
  3. Check doneness by inserting a knife into the center; it should come out clean.
  4. Let cool for a few minutes before serving, optionally dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

Use day-old croissants for best results. You can assemble the dish the night before and bake it fresh in the morning.
