- Add water, 2 cups of blueberries, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice to a heavy saucepan and stir to incorporate.
- Place the saucepan on the stovetop over high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
- Lower the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the remaining 1 cup of blueberries into the simmering mixture.
- Simmer for an additional 6-7 minutes, until the mixture achieves a deep violet color.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the compote cool to your desired temperature before serving.
Notes
Use a heavy-bottomed pan to prevent burning and ensure even heat distribution. If using frozen blueberries, add them directly to the pan without thawing.
