  • 2 cups blueberries Fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup blueberries For adding later
  • 1/2 cup water Serves as the base for the compote
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon zest Infuses a citrus flavor
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice Adds acidity

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Add water, 2 cups of blueberries, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice to a heavy saucepan and stir to incorporate.
  2. Place the saucepan on the stovetop over high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
  3. Lower the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in the remaining 1 cup of blueberries into the simmering mixture.
  5. Simmer for an additional 6-7 minutes, until the mixture achieves a deep violet color.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the compote cool to your desired temperature before serving.

Notes

Use a heavy-bottomed pan to prevent burning and ensure even heat distribution. If using frozen blueberries, add them directly to the pan without thawing.
