Ingredients

For the crostini
  • 12 slices thin slices baguette Opt for a fresh baguette for the best crunch.
  • 1.5 ounces goat cheese (chèvre), room temperature Substitute with cream cheese or ricotta if goat cheese isn't available.
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries Plump and evenly colored; frozen blueberries can work in a pinch.
  • 1.5 tablespoons agave nectar or honey Use maple syrup as an alternative for a different flavor.
  • 12 small leaves basil leaves Fresh basil adds an aromatic quality; mint can be used as a substitute.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake until lightly crisp, about 5 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Spread 1 teaspoon of goat cheese on each baguette slice.
  2. Top each with 5 to 6 blueberries, a drizzle of agave nectar or honey (use about 1/4 to 1/8 teaspoon per crostini), and one basil leaf.
  3. Arrange on a serving platter and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, prepare toppings separately and assemble just before serving. Can drizzle balsamic reduction over the top for an upscale twist.
