  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Infuses the dish with flavor; feel free to adjust for your taste.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds richness; swap with any cooking oil if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes Gives heat; adjust according to your spice tolerance.
  • to taste salt and pepper Enhances flavor; season generously.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds creaminess; nutritional yeast works for a vegan option.

Method
 

Cooking the Pasta
  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain the rest.
Adding Broccoli
  1. In the last 3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pasta water. Drain and set aside.
Combining Ingredients
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes; sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Add the cooked pasta and broccoli to the skillet. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to create a sauce.
  3. Season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, garnished with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. For a heartier meal, consider adding grilled chicken or chickpeas.
