Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Adds richness; can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar Sweetens the dough; brown sugar can enhance moisture and flavor.
  • 2 large Eggs Binds the ingredients; aquafaba (chickpea brine) serves as a vegan alternative.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Boosts flavor; feel free to try different extracts like almond for variation.
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Forms the structure; gluten-free flour blends work well for dietary needs.
  • ½ cup Cocoa powder Creates that delightful chocolate tasting; Dutch-processed cocoa provides a deeper flavor.
  • 1 tsp Baking powder Leavens the cookies; baking soda can be used for a denser cookie.
  • ¼ tsp Salt Balances sweetness; try sea salt for a gourmet touch.
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips Adds gooeyness; feel free to mix milk and dark chocolate for depth.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, melt the unsalted butter and stir in the granulated sugar until combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop portions of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  2. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
