Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda Leave it out if you’re avoiding sodium.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic can be a substitute.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Feel free to reduce or omit if sodium is a concern.
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper Adjust based on your spice tolerance.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Buttermilk You can make your own by adding vinegar to milk.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Cold and cubed for flakiness; can substitute with vegan butter.
  • 1/4 cup Melted Butter For brushing; garlic-infused butter can elevate the flavor.
Cheese and Garnish
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese Essential for cheesy goodness; feel free to mix in other types of cheese.
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley Easily replaceable with other herbs like chives.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat it into a square about 1 inch thick.
  7. Cut into biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle with parsley before serving.

Notes

Common Mistakes to Avoid: Overworking the dough will make biscuits tough. Using chilled ingredients affects fluffiness. Pro Tips: Use a light hand when kneading. For extra flavor, add grated parmesan cheese or herbs to the dough.
