Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread Opt for day-old bread for added texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Enhances richness; can use olive oil for a healthier alternative.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic empowers your dish; garlic powder can be substituted.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Provides a stretchy, gooey texture; blend with cheddar for variation.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds a nutty depth; nutritional yeast makes a great vegan option.
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley Garnishing adds a fresh note; dried herbs can be used if necessary.
  • Salt, to taste Elevates all flavors; sea salt gives a nicer touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened butter and minced garlic until well combined.
  3. Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves.
Baking
  1. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese generously on top.
  2. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  3. If desired, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes for a golden top.
  4. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

Common mistakes include using too much butter, which can lead to a greasy texture, and not allowing the bread to sit after baking before slicing, which can cause the cheese to ooze out. Use roasted garlic for a sweeter taste and fresh herbs like basil or thyme for extra flavor. Make sure your oven is preheated completely for even cooking.
