Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large Eggs Can substitute with flax eggs for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk or yogurt Can alternatively use almond milk mixed with lemon juice.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter Coconut oil or vegan butter can work if you’re dairy-free.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Optional, but recommended for depth of flavor.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the buttermilk and vanilla.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined; do not over-mix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.

Notes

Serve with a drizzle of ganache and a sprinkle of sea salt for balanced sweetness. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days; can be frozen for up to 3 months.
