Ingredients
  

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch sheet cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; mix until fully combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water until batter is smooth; it will be quite liquid.
  5. Pour into prepared pan and bake 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cool before frosting.

Notes

Using boiling water keeps this cake incredibly moist.
