Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and baking soda.
  3. Add the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until smooth and pour in the boiling water to achieve a thin batter.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean; let them cool.
Filling Preparation
  1. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the strawberry filling by blending cream cheese, sugar, milk, and strawberry extract together.
  2. In another bowl, gently fold in Cool Whip and red food coloring until the color is consistent.
  3. Repeat the process for the vanilla filling using cream cheese, sugar, milk, vanilla bean paste, and vanilla extract.
Assembly
  1. Once the cakes have cooled, level them with a knife.
