Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- In a medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixer bowl, cream unsalted butter and both sugars together on medium speed until light in color and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the large egg to the mixture and mix until well combined.
- Incorporate the vanilla extract and mix until evenly blended.
- Add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
Baking
- Using a rubber spatula, help the dough come together to form a cohesive ball.
- Shape the dough into balls about 1 1/2 tablespoons in size and roll them into balls.
- Roll each ball in additional sugar to coat before placing them on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 7-8 minutes, removing them when the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 4-5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For optimal freshness, store your sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. They will stay delicious for up to a week. Consider freezing the rolled dough balls for up to three months.
