Method
Preparation
- Rinse the fresh mint leaves thoroughly and chop them coarsely.
- In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, and salt. Stir to combine.
- Add the chopped mint leaves to the mixture and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Cooking
- Once the mixture begins to simmer, reduce the heat and let it steep for about 15 minutes.
- After steeping, strain the mixture to remove mint leaves, pressing gently to extract maximum flavor.
- Stir in vanilla extract and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Churning
- Transfer to an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Serving
- In the final few minutes of churning, add the chocolate chips for even distribution.
- Once finished, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container.
- Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm before serving.
- Scoop and serve in bowls or cones, garnished with extra chocolate chips if desired.
Notes
Use fresh mint for the best flavor infusion. Chill your ice cream maker bowl overnight for optimal churning results. For a smoother texture, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes before scooping. Store in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn.
