Method
Preparation
- Begin by bringing all your ingredients to room temperature for a smoother blend.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
Making the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, incorporating each fully before adding the next, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the dark chocolate chips or chunks, and nuts if using.
Baking
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about two inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
Cooling
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For the best flavor, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top elevates the flavor.
