Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture until crumbly.
  5. Press half of the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  7. Evenly spread the apple mixture over the crust.
  8. Crumble the remaining dough over the apple filling.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool before drizzling with caramel.

Notes

For best texture, avoid overmixing the dough and ensure apples are firm. Use parchment paper for easy removal from the baking dish.
