Ingredients

For the dough

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar Feeds yeast; honey is a great substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast Essential for rising; instant yeast can be used as well.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Adds a rich flavor; any neutral oil is a good alternative.
  • 2 to 2.5 cups all-purpose flour Forms structure; whole wheat flour works too but may need more kneading.
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt Enhances flavor; kosher salt is an option for a coarser touch.
