Ingredients

Basic Ingredients
  • 2 slices slices of bread Whole grain or sourdough works well for added flavor and fiber.
  • 2 pieces eggs Choose your favorite farm-fresh eggs for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese Cheddar is classic; mozzarella or pepper jack are great alternatives.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential for enhancing flavor.
  • Butter or oil for cooking Use olive oil for a heart-healthier option.

Method

Preparation
  1. Toast the bread slices until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat, around 350°F.
  3. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your preference (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.), usually taking about 2-4 minutes.
  4. Season the eggs with salt and pepper just before they are done to enhance the flavors.
  5. Once the eggs are nearly done, place shredded cheese on top and cover the skillet to melt it, approximately 1-2 minutes.
  6. Assemble by placing the egg and cheese on the toasted bread.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy while warm.

Notes

For meal prep, cook a batch of eggs in advance and store them in the refrigerator for easy assembling during the week. Experiment with adding vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for an extra nutrient boost.
