  • 1 can French Onion Soup Feel free to use homemade or canned.
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Vegetable broth can serve as a vegetarian alternative.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (like Swiss or Mozzarella) Any cheese you love works too!
  • 1 small Onion Fresh onions pack flavor; shallots may be used for a milder taste.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Fresh garlic is always a welcome addition.
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder Use extra if you love onions!
  • to taste Salt Adjust to your personal taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the rice, French onion soup, beef broth, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  6. Top with shredded cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sauté the onions until caramelized before adding the meat. Let the casserole rest slightly before serving; this helps everything set together.
