  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Nutmeg is an excellent alternative if preferred.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt A small amount amplifies flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon butter or cooking spray Greasing your baking dish is essential. Olive oil spray can be used.
  • to taste maple syrup for serving Brown sugar syrup can elevate this dish.
  • optional powdered sugar for dusting Adds a touch of elegance.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cut the French bread into cubes and place them in the baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  5. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  7. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Avoid not letting the bread soak long enough; give it at least 15 minutes. Fresh bread yields better texture than stale. Always grease your baking dish to ensure a clean release.
