  • ½ loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk Can substitute with almond milk for a dairy-free version
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, for topping
  • powdered sugar for topping, optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Butter a 13x9 inch baking pan and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in brown sugar until dissolved.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  4. Add bread cubes to the pan, spreading over the top of the brown sugar/butter mixture.
  5. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour this egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all are saturated.
  6. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon and brown sugar.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
  2. Enjoy!

Notes

Allow it to soak overnight for best results. Top with maple syrup, fresh fruit or whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
