French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, for topping
  • powdered sugar, for topping (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Butter a 13×9-inch baking pan and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved and smooth. Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  3. Add bread cubes on top of the sugar-butter layer in an even layer.
  4. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour evenly over bread, ensuring all pieces are saturated.
  5. Sprinkle remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 tablespoon brown sugar over the top.
  6. Bake 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and set.
  7. Remove, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Use stale bread for best results. Adjust spices according to taste.
