  • 1 tbsp Baking powder Ensure it’s fresh for best results.
  • 1 tsp Baking soda Measures accurately for proper rise.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Can reduce slightly if desired.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar Coconut sugar can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 tsp Ground nutmeg Cinnamon can be used for a different flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Milk Optional substitutes: almond or oat milk.
  • 1 large Egg For a vegan option, substitute with a flax egg.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Use pure for the best flavor.
Frying
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil Can use canola oil or any neutral oil.
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For dusting; can omit or use a sugar alternative.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well-blended.
Cooking
  1. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms; don’t overmix.
  2. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  3. Drop small balls of dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the donut holes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar. Pair with berry compote or creamy dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and can be frozen for later enjoyment.
