  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Deepens flavor; use fresh minced garlic for an extra kick.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Brings sweetness; you can also use finely diced onion.
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika Adds warmth and color; cayenne gives heat if desired.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste Essential seasonings; tailor to your taste buds.
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter Gives richness; vegan butter or olive oil can replace this.
  • 1 tbsp garlic clove (minced) Fresh garlic enhances aroma; paste is an option if pressed for time.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest Brightens flavor; can use lime zest for a different twist.
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped green onions Adds a fresh oniony crunch; use parsley for a unique twist.

Method

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Pat the cod fillets dry with a paper towel to ensure maximum crispness and season generously with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place the seasoned cod in the hot skillet, searing each fillet for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Carefully flip the cod fillets and let them cook on the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add the butter to the skillet, allowing it to melt before incorporating the minced garlic and lemon zest. Cook for about 1 minute, ensuring the flavors meld beautifully.
  6. Gently remove the fish from the pan and plate onto a serving dish. Garnish with fresh green onions.

Notes

Serve with a side of fluffy rice or a fresh green salad. A drizzle of lemon juice can elevate the experience even further. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
