Ingredients

Pizza Base
  • 1 batch Best Pizza Dough Can substitute with Thin Crust Pizza Dough or Pizza Oven Dough.
Sauce and Cheese
  • 1/3 cup Homemade Pizza Sauce Store-bought options can be used if short on time.
  • 1/2 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Any mild cheese can be used as a substitute.
  • 3 ounces Soft Goat Cheese (Chèvre) Feta can be used as a tangy alternative.
Toppings
  • 1 handful Red Onion Slices Shallots can be used in a pinch.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dried Oregano Italian seasoning is a great substitute.
  • to taste Kosher Salt and Fresh Ground Black Pepper Use sea salt for a different texture.
  • as needed Fresh Basil Can substitute with arugula for a peppery kick.

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the dough by following the recipe for Best Pizza Dough, Thin Crust Pizza Dough, or Pizza Oven Dough. Mix for about 15 minutes and rest for 45 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 500°F, placing a pizza stone inside.
  3. Make the homemade pizza sauce by combining tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and spices. Set aside ⅓ cup for the pizza and refrigerate the remaining sauce.
Assembling the Pizza
  1. Dust a pizza peel with cornmeal or semolina flour for easy transfer. If you don't have a peel, use the back of a rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Shape the prepared dough into a round pizza base and place it on the pizza peel.
  3. Spread a thin layer of homemade sauce over the dough, followed by shredded mozzarella and dollops of goat cheese.
  4. Top with red onion slices and dried oregano, then season with kosher salt and black pepper.
Baking
  1. Gently transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone and bake until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden, roughly 5 to 7 minutes in a conventional oven or 1 to 2 minutes in a pizza oven.
  2. Let the pizza cool briefly, then garnish with torn basil leaves before slicing and serving hot.

Notes

To avoid overloading toppings, keep it simple for even baking. Always preheat the oven or pizza stone to ensure a crisp crust. Experiment with different herbs for salsa to create your own twist.
