  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar Feeds the yeast; brown sugar can be an alternative.
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour Main structure of your dough; whole wheat flour adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Essential for flavor; kosher salt can be a substitute.
  • 0.25 cups Baking soda Used in boiling to create the crust.
  • 1 Egg (beaten for egg wash) Gives a golden finish; milk as an alternative.
  • Coarse sea salt For garnish; flavored salts for variety.
Optional Ingredients
  • Dipping sauces Try nacho cheese, mustard, or honey-mustard mix.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  3. Divide the dough into small pieces, roll into bites, and boil them for about 30 seconds each.
  4. Place the pretzel bites on the prepared baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

These bites are best served warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days. They freeze well; cool completely before freezing.
