Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups Fresh Strawberries Ripe fresh strawberries provide natural sweetness; frozen strawberries can work too.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Enhances flavor; can substitute with honey or agave for a healthier alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch Thickens the sauce; if unavailable, try tapioca starch.
  • 1/4 cup Water Used to dissolve the cornstarch; fruit juice can be used for added flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice Brightens the taste; lime juice serves as a good substitute.

Method

Preparation
  1. Whisk the cornstarch and water together until all the cornstarch has dissolved.
  2. Place the cornstarch mixture, along with the rest of the ingredients, into a small saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Stir the mixture as it cooks, breaking up some of the strawberries.
  4. Bring to a simmer and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool. The mixture will thicken as it cools.
  6. Serve the sauce warm or store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

You can microwave the sauce for 15 seconds or warm on the stove to thin out after refrigeration. Experiment with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor.
