Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup Cornmeal Use fine cornmeal for a smoother bite.
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Brown sugar can be used for a deeper flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder Check the expiration date for freshness.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Sea salt or Himalayan salt is recommended.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Milk Buttermilk can be used for a tangier flavor.
  • 1/3 cup Honey Maple syrup can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/3 cup Melted butter Coconut oil is a dairy-free option.
  • 2 large Eggs Can substitute with flax eggs or applesauce for egg-free.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to avoid uneven baking.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, honey, melted butter, and eggs until completely blended.
  4. Gently pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing; lumps are fine.
  5. Transfer the batter into a greased baking pan, smoothing the top gently.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bread turns golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let it cool for a few moments before serving.

Notes

To enhance flavor, allow the cornbread to cool before cutting. Consider drizzling more honey or melted butter over the warm cornbread before serving.
