Ingredients

Marinade
  • 1/4 cup honey Provides sweetness; substitute with maple syrup or agave for a different flavor.
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce Adds a unique sweet and savory layer; no substitute needed.
  • 1 tablespoon warm spices (like five-spice powder) For warmth; use any favorite spice mix if unavailable.
Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 pounds chicken thighs Juicy and tender meat source; chicken breasts can be a leaner alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds Optional garnish; offers a crunch to the dish.

Method

Preparation of Marination
  1. In a bowl, mix the honey, hoisin sauce, and five-spice powder until combined.
Marinate the Chicken
  1. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and ensure they are thoroughly coated. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or longer for maximum flavor).
Cooking
  1. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  2. Grill the marinated chicken thighs for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 25-30 minutes, or until fully cooked.
Finishing Touch
  1. Once cooked, remove from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving.

Notes

Serve with steamed jasmine rice or fresh greens. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
