Ingredients

Cookie Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Adds richness and a melt-in-your-mouth texture; substitute with vegan butter for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Provides depth and moisture; light or dark brown sugar works great.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the dough; can use coconut sugar as a healthier alternative.
  • 2 large eggs Binds the ingredients together; silken tofu can be used for a vegan alternative.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Enhances the flavor profile; homemade vanilla adds richness.
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Forms the base; gluten-free flour blends can work if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Aids in rising; baking powder can be substituted.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness; do not skip.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Provides classic chocolate flavor; use dark chocolate for richness.
  • 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender Ensure it’s culinary grade for a lovely aroma.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and dried lavender until evenly distributed.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them about two inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  2. Allow cookies to cool on the sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

To maintain the cookies' softness, avoid overmixing the dough, chill the dough before baking for thicker cookies, and ensure proper flour measurement.
