Oven Fried Feta Rolls with Chili Honey

Ingredients
  

Cheese Filling
  • 8 oz Feta Cheese, crumbled Any crumbly cheese can be a substitute.
  • 1 cup Ricotta Cheese Can be replaced with goat cheese for an earthy twist.
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano Feel free to substitute with thyme or Italian seasoning.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Use fresh minced garlic for a more robust profile.
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Salt can be an alternative.
Wrapper & Basting
  • 16 oz Phyllo Dough Spring roll wrappers can be a viable alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, melted Olive oil works for a dairy-free version.
Chili Honey
  • 1/2 cup Honey Maple syrup can replace for a different flavor.
  • 1-2 tsp Chili Flakes Adjust based on your taste preference.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the crumbled feta, ricotta, oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush again.
  4. Cut the layered phyllo into strips about 4 inches wide.
  5. Place a tablespoon of the cheese mixture at one end of each strip and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
  6. Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush the tops with more melted butter.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. While the rolls are baking, combine honey and chili flakes in a small saucepan over low heat until warmed and well mixed.
  3. Drizzle the chili honey over the baked feta rolls just before serving.

Notes

Avoid skipping the layering of phyllo dough to ensure crispiness. Brush generously with butter to prevent sogginess. Thaw phyllo dough overnight for easier rolling.
