Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups Yukon gold or russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Stir in heavy cream, salt, and pepper, then bring to a simmer.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then pour half of the cream mixture over.
  5. Sprinkle half of each cheese over this layer.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  3. Let cool slightly, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

Tasting the cheese mixture before adding it can ensure the flavors are perfect. Evenly slicing the potatoes aids in consistent cooking, and letting the dish rest after baking helps it to hold together better when served.
