- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and sauté until golden and fragrant.
- Gradually whisk in the flour, stirring until mixed. Cook for a few minutes to remove the raw taste.
- Slowly stir in the chicken broth while whisking until thickened.
- Add desired seasonings, remembering that the flavor will intensify.
- Pour the gravy into the slow cooker.
- Season the chicken on both sides and place it in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for about 5 hours, shredding during the last hour.
- Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.
- Serve over mashed potatoes, yellow rice, or pasta.
Notes
For added richness, substitute half the chicken broth with cream. If the gravy is too thin, add a slurry of cornstarch and water while it simmers. Make ahead and reheat; flavors deepen overnight.
