  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced can substitute with sirloin or chicken
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce use low-sodium if preferred
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar can swap for honey for a different flavor
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch arrowroot powder can be an alternative
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil olive oil works well too
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced garlic powder can be used if needed
  • 1 teaspoon ginger ground ginger can be a substitute
  • 2 green onions, sliced can use cilantro or parsley for garnish
  • to taste rice, for serving any variety like jasmine or brown rice complements the dish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and brown the flank steak on both sides.
  3. Transfer the beef to a slow cooker and pour the sauce over it.
  4. Cook on low for 4-5 hours until the beef is tender.
  5. Serve over rice and garnish with green onions.

Notes

Marinate the steak for a few hours before cooking to enhance flavors. For a spicy kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce.
