Cooking the Pasta
- Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside, reserving 1 cup of pasta water for the sauce.
Making the Sauce
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, around 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer, allowing all the flavors to meld together, for about 10 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Let the sauce simmer for an additional 10 minutes, adding reserved pasta water if it becomes too thick.
- Spoon the rich meat sauce generously over the spaghetti and enjoy a hearty meal.
Notes
Tip: Keep your pantry stocked with canned tomatoes and spices to easily elevate your spaghetti. Serve in deep bowls with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and a side of garlic bread for a complete experience!
