For the Chicken
  • 2 pieces boneless skinless chicken breast Main protein that absorbs flavors.
  • 1 large egg Helps bind the coatings.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Creates a crunchy outer layer.
  • 1/4 cup corn starch Adds extra crispiness.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For frying the chicken.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves Adds aromatic freshness.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds Optional garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and chili garlic sauce to make the sauce.
  2. Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten egg before coating them in flour, followed by the corn starch.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the coated chicken pieces to the skillet and cook for about 8 minutes, searing until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium, pour the prepared sauce over the chicken, and stir to combine. Cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove the skillet from the heat, add torn basil leaves, and stir until they wilt. Garnish with additional basil and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure oil is hot enough before frying. Can be baked for a healthier version. Adjust the spiciness to taste and consider adding veggies for nutrition.
