Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat until it thickens and begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth. Allow the pudding to cool for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
Assembly
- In a large serving dish, layer half of the vanilla wafers at the bottom.
- Spread half of the pudding over the wafers, followed by half of the sliced bananas and strawberries.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining wafers, pudding, and fruit.
- Top with whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
Serve chilled in dessert cups or jars. Garnish with extra fruit or crushed vanilla wafers. Can double the recipe for gatherings.
