  • 1/2 cup tamari Substitute with low-sodium soy sauce if desired.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Can opt for a brown sugar alternative for a low-sugar option.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced Adds zest and depth.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced Essential flavor component.
  • 1 tablespoon honey For a vegan alternative, use agave nectar.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil Adds a nutty flavor.
  • 3 tablespoons mirin Enhances sweetness and richness.
  • 1/4 cup water mixed with 3 teaspoons cornstarch Acts as a thickening agent.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, mix the tamari, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, honey, sesame oil, mirin, and the cornstarch slurry.
  2. Heat over medium-high until the mixture starts to bubble, approximately 2–3 minutes.
  3. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and deepen in flavor.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool before transferring the sauce to an airtight container.
  5. Chill the sauce in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

Double the recipe for meal prep. You can also add chili flakes for a spicy kick. Always taste as you go to adjust sweetness or saltiness to your liking.
