Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by washing the tomatoes under cool water. Pat dry with a towel.
  2. Chop the tomatoes into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Rinse the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry.
  4. Slice the garlic thinly to release its aromatic flavor.
Cooking
  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes to the skillet. Cook until they begin to soften and release their juices, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Once the spaghetti is cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water and then drain the spaghetti.
  5. Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with tomatoes. Toss to combine.
  6. If the mixture seems dry, add some reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
  7. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in fresh basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serving
  1. Plate the pasta warm and garnish with extra basil if desired.
