Preparation
- Start by washing the tomatoes under cool water. Pat dry with a towel.
- Chop the tomatoes into bite-sized pieces.
- Rinse the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry.
- Slice the garlic thinly to release its aromatic flavor.
Cooking
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes to the skillet. Cook until they begin to soften and release their juices, about 3-4 minutes.
- Once the spaghetti is cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water and then drain the spaghetti.
- Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with tomatoes. Toss to combine.
- If the mixture seems dry, add some reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
- Remove the skillet from heat and stir in fresh basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serving
- Plate the pasta warm and garnish with extra basil if desired.
- Enjoy your delicious Tomato Basil Pasta immediately!
Notes
Use high-quality, seasonal tomatoes for the best flavor. Adjust the garlic quantity based on your taste preferences for a milder or stronger flavor. Store leftover sauce separately to keep the pasta from becoming mushy.
